"Use it or lose it!" "Dancing is good!" "Keep Dancing!"
These have become our ‘tag lines’ in Class, as for us to move and to dance is what keeps us fit physically, mentally and emotionally.
Having trained to be an FLexercise Teacher in 2013 gaining a Level 3 qualification in “Teaching Dance to Adults”, I now take my passion for dance to three FLexercise classes each week in Taunton and also to four Zumba Gold classes having gained my Zumba License in 2017.
Both dance systems are low impact movement to music classes which are particularly suited to the Active 50+ participant or to the Beginner or someone returning to exercise after injury or illness.
For the 50+ age range it is so important to maintain an active, healthy and independent life.
We need to keep moving to maintain our mobility, muscle strength and flexibility.
For me, ‘Dance’ is my ‘Keep Moving’ as it addresses all of the above and more!
It strengthens the heart and muscles, it increases bone density. In addition it helps to improve memory and brain function via having to remember the steps and sequences so can help in our battle against dementia.
Dance is social and the coming together at Class, the coffee and chat, the laughter all help to combat another great ‘ill’ -loneliness, thereby contributing hugely to our emotional wellbeing as indeed does the music which can be incredibly uplifting.
After a dance class you not only feel energised and stretched but also distinctly happier.
Leaving with smiles all round makes for a good morning’s/ afternoon’s work.

The FLexercise system is derived from WLHB (Women’s League of Health and Beauty) which was established in 1930
by visionary Mary Bagot Stack.
It is therefore a proven exercise formula
which is accessible to All.
The original concept of Zumba combines a dance workout with a party like atmosphere, dancing to essentially Latin rhythms.
It builds cardiovascular health by challenging the heart and working all the joints and muscles with dance moves.
